Apprentice carpenter

Josh Sikora accepts his certificate

Josh is a very polite young man, who had great support from his parents but did not want to continue at school.

As an Early School Leaver, Sarina Russo Job Access Hervey Bay referred him to Construction Skills Queensland’s ‘Trade Start’ program – and he hasn’t looked back.

Josh loved the course and even took on extra voluntary work along with his work experience which set the momentum to place him in a building apprenticeship.

Josh received great feedback from his trainers and they knew he’d be snapped up.  They even sent out his resume with the title “Awesome young man”.

He was offered a job immediately after his interview.

Josh attended his ‘Trade Start’ graduation to receive his RII20113 Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation.

Program manager Rick Hose said ‘he was happy to announce the program’s 2015 Star Student was Josh, who secured a building apprenticeship with a local house/land package builder’.

After the ceremony Josh said ‘the Construction Skills Queensland’s ‘Trade Start’ program ‘gave him the skills and the confidence to make the most of his difficult job search and he was happy he now was able to stand on his own two feet.

Participants volunteer to become a ‘Trade Start’ trainee which provides them structured workplace learning. The program provides first-hand knowledge, skills and career pathway options giving participants a tangible linkage to available apprenticeships.
