Not sure about what career would suit you? Looking for a career change? A career assessment test could help you decide what employment path to take.
A career assessment test generally involves answering a series of questions (usually multiple-choice) about your interests, values and preferences.
There is a variety of tests to choose from, including:
- Online career quizzes which analyse your responses and match you to occupations that might suit your interests and personality.
o These quizzes are usually short and aim to open your mind to career possibilities you may not have considered before. Don’t worry if the occupations presented don’t interest you at first - after further research you may find that they are perfect for you or give you other ideas.
o Some career interest tests give you a summary of your responses, which you can draw on when describing your strengths, interests, values and preferences to other people, including employers.
If you are really interested in a particular field, you can also use a more sophisticated type of test called a psychometric test. Psychometric tests are designed to measure a person’s suitability for a role, based on how closely your personality and cognitive abilities match those needed to perform in a job. Employers sometimes use the information collected from psychometric tests to identify certain attributes of candidates that can be difficult to extract from a face-to-face interview.
