The advertising potential of Instagram went from zero to hero for New Enterprise Incentive Scheme graduate Mason Bailey.
His business, Five Nine Five Photography, was so disappointed in its Instagram account’s lack of activity that Mason decided just to turn it into a personal account where he could experiment with his passion for timepiece photography.
As an avid watch collector, Mason decided to photograph one of his favourite watches - the Melbourne Watch Co - Hawthorn.
Not long after uploading the photo onto Instagram Mason received a private message from the Managing Director of Melbourne Watch Co saying they were looking for a new photographer and asked if he’d be interested.
A month later, Mason is the official, and exclusive, studio and lifestyle photographer for Melbourne Watch Co.
Mason said he’s now drawing an income far larger than anything he expected within the first year of running Five Nine Five.
“It goes to show work can come from unexpected places and doing what you love, not just what you're good at, really does pay off,” he said.
