JCU Brisbane alumnus Kiran Das has won the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Young Professional of the Year award.

Each year, the ACS Young Professional of the Year is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated excellence and displayed the highest standard of professional ethics in the ICT sector.

When asked how he felt about winning this award, Kiran said, "Its my honour to receive such a prestigious award from Australian Computer Society. I felt all my hard work and persistence finally paid off by standing along other prominent award winners and motivated to work even harder to achieve my goals. I wish, my humble story could motivate many other students to start their own business in Australia where nothing is impossible."

Since graduating from JCU Brisbane in 2016, Kiran has become a renowned tech-entrepreneur with a passion for changing the world through innovative commodities and services using modern technologies.

Kiran is now the Founder and CEO of BRIKS Infotech and CoursePal.

"I was always passionate about doing business since I was young and my Masters in IT/MBA degree from James Cook helped me to realize it by starting my business just after University. I really enjoy running my business and engaged in multiple areas on daily basis and work on things challenging and eventually make it happen that could change many people's lives" said Kiran.

Coming to Australia with no business experience, Kiran acknowledges the contribution JCU Brisbane made in helping him become the successful entrepreneur he is today.

"My time at James Cook University helped me a lot, to start my business, and also, to expand my knowledge. I come from a middle-class family without any business background, but my studies at James Cook helped me to learn a lot of things, especially the research program I did help me to find the problems currently in Australia, and also my business plan that was a subject, of my MBA program, that helped me build a foundation for my business" says Kiran.
