The United Nations General Assembly designated 24 January as the International Day of Education to honour the vital role of education in fostering peace and development globally.
This year, the theme is "Learning for Lasting Peace" and is dedicated to the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech, a phenomenon which has snowballed in recent years with the use of social media, damaging the fabric of our societies. [unesco.org]
